But don’t just take our word for it! Below, we dive into their story so you can get to know them and see why you’ll be in good hands.
How Ed Built a Life Around Hunting
Ed Anderson has been a hunter for as long as he can remember. Growing up on a small farm near Medstead, Saskatchewan, he spent countless hours exploring the bush, going chickens with his .22, and watching the wildlife around him. For Ed, being outside was his most cherished pastime—it was where he felt most at home.
Over the years, that passion grew from a hobby into his way of life. He’s a regular at hunting shows and a dedicated gun collector. His collection started with guns passed down from his father and grandfather, each piece carrying a story. These days, he’s always eager to test out new rifles from brands like Fierce and Adler. and he’s recently developed a keen interest in long-range hunting rifles.
Owning a camp was always Ed’s dream. He wanted to turn his expertise into a career and share it with others worldwide so that they could feel the same sense of fulfillment and connection to nature. In 2017, that dream became reality when he and his wife, Faryn, took over Elusive, purchasing the tags from longtime owner Harvey McDonald, who had built the outfitting business over 27 years. Today, Ed continues Harvey’s legacy, committed to creating guided whitetail hunts and giving guests an unforgettable experience.
Faryn’s Journey from Outdoorsy Farm Girl to Passionate Hunter
Before marrying Ed, Faryn Anderson never considered herself a hunter. But growing up on a mixed farm near Leoville, Saskatchewan—now the family home she shares with Ed, located halfway between Elusive and their sister camp, Otter Creek —she was always an outdoorsy farm girl at heart and was no stranger to outdoor adventures.
She spent endless hours riding the ATV and snowmobile, embracing every opportunity to explore the wide-open landscapes around her property. Hunting was a constant topic at home: her brothers embraced it, and their farm often became a gathering spot for friends and family enjoying the activity.
Once Ed introduced her to hunting, she was hooked. They began dating as teenagers, having met each other through their parents, who were friends and had similar interests. Ot all started with spending summer days wagon trekking as kids together and attending local rodeos, bonding as the babies of their family – Ed, the youngest of 5, and Faryn, the youngest of 4. They got married in 2006 when they were 20 and 22.
Ed’s passion was contagious, and over the years, he’s made it a priority to include her in every aspect of the experience. For Faryn, spending time in nature provides a sense of calm and grounding. She’s come to love the simple life that outfitting offers and the memories they create as a family
Their family trips have become a cherished tradition, and Faryn adores how Ed takes the time to educate her and their three kids—their sons, nine-year-old Cooper and thirteen-year-old Bryer, and their eleven-year-old daughter Paisley. That sense of family togetherness extends into the atmosphere at Elusive – something that past guests say they value about them as expert hunting guides in Saskatchewan.
Building a Family Legacy in the Wilderness
Since July 2024, Ed and Faryn have fully transitioned to life as full-time professional outfitters. Now, they split their time between their two camps, traveling back and forth to oversee operations, connect with their visitors and ensure everything runs smoothly
But it wasn’t always this way! Before immersing themselves entirely in running their Elusive and Otter Creek camps, Ed and Faryn spent 18 years in the oil field. They managed a trucking company while making time for hunting whenever they could. After purchasing the
tags from Harvey in 2017, they worked tirelessly for eight years to make outfitting their year-round occupation.
Clearly, their dedication paid off!
Beyond aspiring to make a difference as experienced outfitters, they wanted to build a family-centered lifestyle that revolves around the outdoors and raise their kids in the heart of the province’s wilderness. Inspired by this mission, they redesigned the accommodations to offer a cozy hunting lodge in Saskatchewan that offers a welcoming environment where guests feel like family.
Ed and Faryn’s genuine care for their guests and creating a personalized experience sets them apart. They take the time to get to know each guest, enjoying the chance to listen to their stories.
Nurturing Their Home for the Future
Having grown up and spent their entire lives in this province, Ed and Faryn believe that they need to take a sustainable approach that protects the land and the wildlife who live here. They are deeply committed to ensuring Elusive and its guests follow the principles of conservation and ethical hunting.
They have implemented robust programs for deer management, working hard to provide adequate nutrition and maintain their habit so the local whitetail can flourish, and grow big in an environment that promotes their long-term survival.
Ed and Faryn’s goal is to leave the land in better condition than they found it, ensuring that their children’s children and all future generations can enjoy the same pristine wilderness that makes Saskatchewan such a special place to hunt.
What does this mean for you, now? You get incredibly access to thriving animals, and you can feel confident that you’re engaging with them responsibly!
