Memorable Experiences, Unforgettable Hunts
Testimonials About Our Past Guided Hunts
Mike's Story
Mike, a lifelong hunter in his 50s from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, discovered Elusive while searching online for a Saskatchewan outfitter. What initially caught his attention was the camp’s long history and beautiful simplicity. He loved its remote location, surrounded by the stunning Green Lake. Mike also appreciated the opportunity to access expert guidance while also hunting independently.
In late October, Mike and his father journeyed north. Once arriving, they immediately loved Elusive's family-like atmosphere, which set it apart from larger operations. The experience felt genuine and personal: the team warmly welcomed them upon arrival with hugs and they shared the experience with an intimate group of fellow hunters.
Throughout the week, Mike felt that Elusive provided a true hunting experience for those who value a fair chase between the animal and the hunter and care about the spirit of the sport.
Boyce’s Story
Boyce, a 58-year-old from North Carolina, has been hunting ever since his father introduced him to the sport over fifty years ago.
In the 1990s, Boyce began hunting at Elusive's camp when founder Harvey MacDonald owned it. Though North Carolina has whitetail deer, Boyce was first drawn to the massive body and antler size of Saskatchewan's game -- which aren't available back home. He took a break to focus on raising his family, but as soon as his son turned sixteen, they began making the journey together—returning four times since for a shared experience that he cherishes.
He has loved the support of Elusive's staff. Over the years, Boyce has found each guide professional and friendly, committed to helping each person feel well cared for. The camp's cook, Diane, has a friendly demeanor. When paired with her delicious home-cooked meals, the experience is even more special for Boyce when he visits.
Now, although Boyce has successfully snagged several during his time at Elusive, he has let several big deer pass simply to extend the solitude and beauty of being alone in Saskatchewan's wilderness, connecting deeply with nature and witnessing the movements of local animals like deer, moose, spotting foxes and lynx.
As Boyce looks forward to future trips, it's the time in the stand he cherishes most. For him, the stand has become a form of therapy, a place to plan, reflect, and heal while reconnecting with himself in a way that feels impossible in the rush of daily life.
Nick's Story
Nick, from central Michigan, has been hunting since he was old enough to carry a rifle. While he had ventured to Kansas for deer hunts, he had never hunted outside the U.S.—until he decided to experience Canada’s renowned whitetail hunting for himself.
Looking back, he calls choosing Elusive Outfitters the best decision of his life.
From the moment an Elusive guide picked him up in Saskatoon, he felt welcomed—like family. They did everything they could to give him a successful and memorable experience: taking the hassle out of the paperwork, guiding him through the process of bringing his firearm across the border and later preparing his trophies—antlers, hide, and all—so he could bring them home without issues.
Nick loves the remote hunting spots, where he’s surrounded by nature with no distractions. The deer activity is unlike anything he’s seen, with the action lasting all day. On his first trip, he took home an impressive 10-point buck. The next year, he returned with his dad, and they both harvested deer; Nick’s was an 8-point with unique coloring and beautiful antlers.
Beyond the hunt, the lodge feels like home. Clean, cozy, and well-maintained, it’s the best hunting lodge he’s ever stayed in. But what makes it truly special is the time spent swapping stories with guides, reliving the day’s excitement, and sitting down for one of Diane’s famous home-cooked meals. And for Nick, her homemade desserts? The icing on the cake.
Nick plans to return to Elusive Outfitters for as long as he can—because here, every season brings another unforgettable memory.
